Prime Minister Sends Best Wishes to Pacific Islanders Rugby Team |
From the Prime Minister's Office Thursday 6 November 2008: The Hon Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon Feleti Vaka’uta Sevele, has sent a message of goodwill and best wishes to the 2008 Sports Hydrant Pacific Islanders Rugby Team, on behalf of the Government and people of Tonga. The Team is in London preparing for their first test match of their tour against England on Saturday.
The Hon Prime Minister’s message was sent to the Team Manager, Mr. Sitiveni Rabuka, the former Prime Minister of Fiji via the office of the Tonga Rugby Football Union in Nuku’alofa.
In his message to the Team, the Hon Prime Minister said, “As someone who has had a long association with Rugby in Tonga I firmly believe that the 12 Rugby Unions from the Pacific Islands region including Fiji, Samoa and Tonga have made a major contribution to world rugby – a contribution which is seldom acknowledged nor rewarded by the larger Unions. The success of your tour will help rectify that.”
The Head Coach of the 2008 Sports Hydrant Pacific Islanders Rugby Team is the coach of the national Ikale Tahi Team, Quddus Fielea. Tonga and Fiji have 10 players in the touring team, whilst Samoa has 8. The Team’s captain is Fiji’s Mosese Rauluni and Tonga’s Ikale Tahi captain, ‘Otenili Latu, is vice-captain.
