Highlights

  • As of today, 3 new cases reported with positive rapid test, bringing the total DF cases to 63.
  • Majority of confirmed cases from Vava’u (26), the rest from Tongatapu (25) and ‘Eua (12).
  • Age group mostly affected is 10-19 years old.
  • A total of 8 cases are currently hospitalized and all are stable (5 Vaiola, 3 Niu’eiki).
  • No dengue-related deaths reported so far.
  • Ongoing response activities and preventative measures implemented in high-risk areas, including awareness activities at FWC Malapo and Ma’ufanga.

Recommendations for the Public

  • Continue to clean up and destroy mosquito breeding sites around the home.
  • Wear appropriate clothing to minimize mosquito bites.
  • Use mosquito nets and repellents such as lotion and spray.
  • If you are sick, watch out for severe symptoms and seek medical attention immediately.

Dengue Fever Symptoms

  • Sudden high fever
  • Severe headaches
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Swollen glands
  • Rash appearing 3-4 days after fever begins

Severe symptoms, such as abdominal pain, bleeding gums, and vomiting blood require immediate medical attention.
