238 citizens return home via two repatriation flights

14th January, 2021 The 13th and 14th repatriation flights into Tonga since Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020 and the first for this year 2021, landed today with more than 230 passengers from Samoa and New Zealand.

Over 1,400 Tongans have been repatriated since July 2020.

The flight from Samoa arrived after 12pm with 24 stranded nationals via a government chartered flight operated by Lulutai Airlines.

According to the CEO for MEIDECC Mr Paula Ma’u, the flight from New Zealand landed at 2:30pm with 214 nationals.

All returning passengers will be quarantined at Tanoa Hotel and Makeke Camp for the next fortnight and are required to self-isolate at home for seven days after the two weeks quarantine period.

The 15th repatriation flight is set to arrive from New Zealand on February 4.
