Parliament Soft Closing Ceremony

25 February 2016 A soft closing ceremony for the Legislative Assembly of Tonga for 2015/2016 Parliamentary Session was held today at the Parliament House in Nuku’alofa.

The three Nobles appointed to officially close the House were Lord Vaha’i, His Serene Highness Prince Tu’ipelehake and Lord Vaea.

Speaking to the assembly on behalf of His Majesty King Tupou VI, His Serene Highness Prince Tu’ipelehake acknowledged the Speaker of the House, Prime Minister, Ministers of the Cabinet, Nobles of the Realm and the People’s Representatives for the completion of this Parliamentary Year with the hope that it will benefit the people of Tonga.

He also thanked the House in assisting the people of Vava’u and Ha’apai in the wake of Cyclone Winston and the importance of national preparation during this cyclone season.

He acknowledged Tonga’s Development Partners and Foreign Aid Agencies for their support over the years in enhancing development in Tonga.

The House will now adjourned until the 2nd of June, 2016.
