Cultural Heritage Conservation & Restoration

19th August, 2021 Phase two of the Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration project of the Langi Heketa at Niutoua commenced with a workshop on the 9th through to the 20th of August 2021. This special project is part of the conservation program managed by UNESCO World Heritage. The purpose of this program is to educate and promote awareness of the importance of heritage conservation for our future leaders and decision-makers.

The Culture & Heritage Division and Destination Development Division of the Ministry of Tourism have joined forces with the Hou’eiki Tauhi Fonua, Tamale ‘of Niutoua, Town Officer Mr. Paluki Valeli, Niutoua Town Council and Youth members and Niutoua community in clearing overgrown foliage throughout the heritage site and restoration works to the Langi Heketa. Workshop participants of the first phase of this project applied their skills and training in appropriate heritage site management and conservation methods.
