Background:

During the 2008 World Future Energy Summit, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, made the official announcement that launched the Sheikh Zayed Future Energy Prize – a tribute to his late father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his sustainability legacy.

Over 352 million people have been directly and indirectly impacted by the sustainability solutions and school projects of the 86 recipients of the Prize winners since the first ceremony in 2009. The Zayed Sustainability Prize has served as a dynamic catalyst for positive transformation, introducing grass roots change and connecting 352 million people with critical sustainability solutions all over the world.

In 2014, a Tonga High School student won the 2014 Zayed Sustainability Prize with her solar power project, when she applied through the “Global High School Category”, representing the East Asia and Pacific Region.

Entries to the Sheikh Zayed Sustainability Prize:

This official announcement invites all pioneers with impactful sustainability solutions and innovative ideas in Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools to join this pursue of excellence.

Today, the Prize stands at the forefront of fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals by once again providing a unique platform for small and medium enterprises, Non-Profit Organisations (NGOs) and global High Schools to showcase their impact, innovation and inspiration.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize categories are: “Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High School.” The Zayed Prize’s USD$3 Million Fund rewards winners with USD$600,000 in each category.

The Global High Schools category is split into six world region (including East Asia and the Pacific) winners, with each school able to claim up to USD $100,000 to start or further expand their project.
